Watch Rok Cup Singapore 2019 with 1 Play Sports 2019
The weekend of 18th of August, 1 Play Sports broadcasted the ROK Cup Singapore Round 4 which was also Round 5 of the ROK Cup Asia Zone. A total of 12 countries were represented, with drivers hailing from all around the world, as far as Colombia and Russia.
The event comprised of racers in five divisions — Mini, Junior, Expert, GP50 and Senior/Open. With drivers as young as 7, the event showcased the talents of young drivers from around the world in the Mini and Junior categories. The Expert/GP50 category were open to drivers above the age of 50 and showed that the sport is not just one for the young.
After rounds of qualifying races, the finals started with a heated battle in the Mini category for first place. 13-year old Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi of Thailand took the lead for most of the race, but it was 10-year old William Go from the Philippines that stole the lead in the last four laps to claim the trophy.
The most intense competition of the day came from the Senior/Open category, open to all drivers above the age of 12. The qualifying saw 23 drivers clocking a time within 1 second of each other. The top 3 positions were hotly contested from the start, and Rava Mahpud of Indonesia took the lead after lap 5 and won with a comfortable margin in the end, 3 seconds ahead of Malaysian Putera Adam in second place.
The other 3 categories had little competition for the top spot. The Junior category saw Indonesian Gael Julien take home the title winning by an enormous 5-second margin. The Expert and GP50 categories saw two Singaporeans, Roy Tang and Leon Khoo win the races respectively after having held onto the lead during the entire race.
